FAQs

What does an intake session look like?

1

My goal is to make the process of starting therapy approachable. It’s normal to have some anxiety prior to an intake session. I recommend pouring yourself your favorite cup of tea or cozy beverage before logging on. During an intake session I’ll go over some details of how I run my practice, introduce Barrett, a sassy border collie who may make an appearance in the background, and then we can talk as much or as little about what has brought you to therapy. After the session you are always welcome to take some time if needed to decide if you want to schedule more sessions moving forward.

Is therapy the only way to care for my mental health?

2

So much of therapy happens between sessions. You will get out of therapy what you put into it. On the flip side, there is no such thing as an “A+ Student” therapy client. Therapy also gets to be a space to just exist as a human. During sessions there will naturally be questions that come up that may need some space to ponder during the time between sessions. Writing these questions down can be helpful. At times I will also make recommendations for books, services or resources that may help to support in various ways.

Do you prescribe homework?

I believe in whole body care. Your body impacts your mind and vice versa. Because of this I believe services with a trusted provider such as massage, acupuncture, craniosacral work, reiki, functional medicine, and other services can be beneficial addendums to psychotherapy. I am continuously trying to grow my referral list for these services to be able to share with my clients.
